BOX Remote Monitoring

BOX Control Systems, the main parts:

CraneBOX:

A control system for automatic stacker cranes (AS/RS).

ConveyorBOX:

A control system for conveyor systems; pallet conveyors, light goods conveyors and ancillary equipment.

BOX Control Interface, BCI:

A graphical user interface providing real time, full information of all BOX systems in an installation.

BOX Remote Monitoring, BRM:

An interface to the BOX system via handheld devices, for fast, mobile support.

BOX Remote Monitoring, BOX RM

BOX RM is a system that allows users to communicate with a BOX Control system via handheld devices (so-called PDAs or pocket PCs). The system is aimed at engineers supporting or monitoring systems running with Swisslog-Accalon's BOX Control systems. No longer do you need to access a computer or control cabinet to locate and fix a problem. It is the ideal solution when you need quick responses and where staff have to cover a lot of systems and equipment, perhaps spread over a large area. Communication is via wireless network.

The hardware and software elements of the BOX RM are structured and identified as follows:

BOX RM

- Remote Monitoring Device, RMD, the PDAs or pocket PCs
- Remote Monitoring Application, RMA, the software part

PDA

The application in turn has the following main parts:

BOX RMA

- Remote Monitoring Service, RMS, the server software
- Remote Monitoring Interface, RMI, the client software

The client software, RMI, is a graphical user interface that can be installed on various devices; not only on different types of PDAs, but also on laptops or desktops - so long as they support JVM (Java Virtual Machine).

Basic functionality

- The system handles user identities with login/logout functionality
- Up to ten RMIs can be connected to one RMS, ie ten devices or ten engineers can be using the system simultaneously
- The RMIs receive alarms from ConveyorBOX and CraneBOX services and alert the operator by buzzing or vibrating
- The user/engineer looks at the alarm and can acknowledge that he/she will deal with it, other users on the system will then see this - thereby avoiding more than one engineer responding to an alarm
- Errors are presented on the PDA with detailed information
- Errors can be corrected from the RMI, system restarted etc
- All errors are stored in a database
- Statistical reports can be generated from the database by a report generating tool

PDA in action

This system means that the engineer is instantly alerted when an error occurs. The RMD also means that the location of the error is immediately known - no need to visit the control room or control cabinet.

Conveyor PLC, groups and position errors are presented with full status information. Start and stop functions are provided so that the system can be re-started when the error has been corrected.

Regarding stacker cranes or miniload cranes; crane errors are shown with full crane status information such as current assignment, fork load etc. Crane errors can be cleared using clear alarm and re-start assignment functions.

Using BOX Remote Monitoring saves a lot of running around. It saves time and makes support more efficient than ever!
